Montavilla neighborhood is located in Northeast and Southeast Portland in the Willamette River watershed. It is bounded by the 1-84 freeway to the north and the I-205 freeway to the east. Montavilla has been around since the 1890’s, though back then it was called Mount Tabor Village. The name “Montavilla” was adopted by residents because that was the abbreviation for the neighborhood name on streetcar signs. The streetcar served the area from 1892-1948. Currently, the neighborhood is a mix of commercial and residential, with notable features including Montavilla Park, Berrydale Park, and Multnomah University. Montavilla is a part of the Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Program Coalition.
